Auckland now boasts a decent number of farmers markets. I aim to get around them all and make some simple seasonal dishes with product that isn’t commonly used to inspire market goers to be more adventurous and use local farmers markets as supermarket replacements rather than just a weekend excursion.
I love the interactions markets provide.

Recipe –
Olive oil, salt and pepper
1/2 a leek
2 broccoli stalks cut into even sized sticks or batons
1/2 cup water or stock
30g creamy blue cheese from the cheese guy
1 pear
2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar or lemon juice

Heat heavy base pan that has a snug fitting lid
Add oil
add shredded leek
Season and stir until coloured 1-2 mins
Add broccoli, water and cover
Cook 3-5 mins until broccoli stalk is tender
Turn off
Add cheese, toss
Finish with pear and vinegar

Another recipe – Hot Hobsonville salad

Olive oil
Salt and pepper
Semi cured spicy sausage
Salad greens
Sherry vinegar

Render some fat out of sausage
Remove sausage from pan
Cook parsnip and cauliflower in the sausage grease
Return sausage to pan
Add dash of vinegar
Pour over salad greens
